There is just something about kids and fair isle caps particularly ones with ear flaps. It is just so classic and so right. I wanted to make a modern twist on the classic caps with bright colors but still simple.

The first time I knit this hat it was for my nephew. Ian, seen here, loves hats in a way that if he was an adult would be called obsessive. He always wants to have a hat on his head and would like others to have one on too thank-you-very-much. It felt right when my husband suggested naming the hat after an island because of the fair isle. To my knowledge Ian has one been to one island – St Augustine. Perfect.

Ear-a-ma-jigs update

I made some updates to the Ear-a-ma-jigs pattern while preparing it for printing.

Improvements include:

reworked the pattern so it can be worked on a single circular, magic loop or double pointed needles
added length to hat to improve fit
fixed slight error in bear and panda ear decreases
made graphic improvements to PDF to improve readability

With my son going to bed a little earlier these days I find myself with a little quiet time each evening. It is normally just and hour or so but after months of fussy evenings and cluster feedings a little forced quiet time is more than welcome.

I sit.

I knit.

I’m still.

Life is good.

p.s. I got a new camera and having fun playing with it.

Pattern Preview – Winter Hat

Hey guys! You might notice something about this picture. Like the fact that it not a robot. Ummm yeah the robot is being worked on and once I have something to show that almost looks like something I will share. Promise.

But I thought you might enjoy a sneak peek at my recently finished portable project. This is the third rendition I have made of this hat, one going to my nephew, one quickly outgrown by my fatheaded baby and finally this one. Each hat was a little different but this one is by far my favorite if the lot and not just because my fair isle is finally looking somewhat even. I am still not sure what to call the design. Suggestions?

The pattern will be available soon as a ravelry download. Maybe I can get some photos with the snow we are getting in Atlanta today. Really? Snow?

Speaking of photos – What ever made me think it would be easier to take pictures once my son could hold himself up? Now all he wants to do is move! Everything is blurry!

Petite Purls – Winter 2009

Have you seen Petite Purls yet? It is an amazing magazine founded by the talented Brandy Fortune and Allegra Wermuth . I am thrilled to be in the latest issue and I am extremely honored to have not one but two patterns included.

Check out the crochet corner where you can make Foamies. I first made these fun bath guys over two years ago and just waited for the right motivation to finish writing the pattern.

Little man’s new favorite “hat” is in there too. Harper’s Hood has been worn almost every day this fall. Perfect for forgetful moms who walk out the door every morning forgetting it is cold out and need to quickly shove something on their bald baby’s head. Now who do I know like that?

My City Boy

More knocked up knitting. I need to make this a tag for my blog.

Before the weeks of rain we had what is most likely our last blast of summer weather. And my son finally fit in one of the sweaters that I made him. He had it on for a whole 2 hours before he woke up from his nap and then promptly spit up all over it. Unless we have a September heat wave (been known to happen) then this will be his one and only time wearing it. Awesome.

Pattern is Pixie Purls’ Country Kiddie. Yarn is some random sock yarn that I lost the label for.

Nature Rattle Set

Another edition of the ongoing series I am now calling “knocked up knitting.” That being said this project is crochet. Yeah I know, it is a sin to call crochet knitting but knocked up knitting just sounds cute. So what did I make? Why toys – what else?

A set of rattles with a nature theme seemed like just the right finishing touch to the boy’s forest nursery. Since then I have made a few for friend’s babies. If you would liek to make your own I have made the pattern available for download on Ravelry.
